Basic-Level Workshop: One-Day Location Sound Recording Crash Course

Join the MFA and fellow film professionals and students at this intro to location sound recording beginner-level crash course in professional audio production. This workshop will cover topics such as “the science of sound,” best recording practices, post-production workflow, and fixing bad audio. Participants will be instructed on several levels of audio equipment, starting with consumer-level gear and then moving on to professional-grade audio recorders, shotgun microphones, and wireless systems.
Whether you’re interested in learning how to construct your first audio kit, or simply want to make your current audio sound better, this is the workshop for you!
Instructor: Aaron Boothroyd
Aaron Boothroyd is a filmmaker, educator, and media specialist. He has over a decade of professional experience, spanning multiple mediums, including location sound recording, audio design, digital composition, digital filmmaking, and still photography. He is an assistant professor of new media at the University of Maine, where he designs and instructs courses on 3-D modeling, animation, digital art, special effects, and audio production. He also works as a photo, video and audio specialist for The Jackson Laboratory in Bar Harbor, Maine.
